McLaren presents Artura, the first plug-in hybrid supercar
04/03/2021
Climate change is already evidence and there are fewer and fewer brands that keep looking the other way. Automobile firms, in this case, are betting on the progressive electrification of their vehicles, especially high-end ones. This is the case of McLaren and the recent presentation of its new Artura model, an event attended by our CEO, Mr. Narcís Socías, on behalf of Andorra Sotheby’s International Realty. Although it is not the first hybrid model of the brand, it is the first to be manufactured in series, and the first units will be delivered to customers this year.
Thus begins a new stage for McLaren, at least until 2025, the year in which all its models will be electrified, as announced in 2017. The new McLaren Arturaincorporates a propulsion system that combines the performance of a three-liter biturbo V6 petrol block and 585 hp with another 95 hp electric. In total, the Artura can develop a power of 680 hp, which allows it to offer incredible performance.
Acceleration and speed
Paired with an eight-speed SSG dual-clutch automatic transmission with electronic differential, this new model achieves a top speed electronically limited to 330 km/h (130 km/h when driving in pure electric mode). Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h stops the chrono in just 3 seconds, while to reach 300 km/h from a standstill it takes just over 20 seconds. These impressive figures are possible thanks to the work on aerodynamics and weight reduction. The new carbon fiber chassis, which is expected to be used in future models of the brand, lightens the car (1,395 kg when empty and 1,498 kg in running order) and even achieves greater rigidity.
Autonomy and efficiency
McLaren Artura has a range of about 30 kilometers in 100% electric mode. The 7.4 kWh lithium-ion battery can be recharged to 80% in just two and a half hours. For greater comfort, it can also accumulate energy while driving, depending on the selected driving mode.
The manufacturer also ensures that Artura is McLaren’s most efficient supercar, with an average consumption of 5.6 liters per 100 km and emissions of 129 g / k of CO2.
Design
This new model, with a length of 4.54 meters, a width of 2.08 meters and a height of 1.19 meters; It presents an unmistakable design although it does not clash with other models of the firm, always characterized by a sharp front. As for its interior, the dashboard incorporates a new digital instrumentation panel, as well as an eight-inch touch screen that controls functions such as: radio, GPS, climate control, etc. A selector allows to choose between up to 4 driving modes according to the driver’s preferences: E-Mode, Comfort, Sport and Track.
Technology
In terms of technological advantages, Artura’s equipped with advanced connectivity and driving assistance systems. To improve occupant comfort, this model has specific Pirelli P-Zero tires, which reduce both vibrations and noise.
The McLaren Artura is available in three trim levels: Performance, with a sportier aesthetic, TechLux, more technological; and Vision, more avant-garde. Its starting price in the United States is located at 225,000 dollars (186,000 euros) and can now be reserved. The first units will be delivered during the third quarter of 2021.
