Andorra presents the National Airport
01/04/2021
The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Andorra (CCIS) has concluded the studies that confirm the technical viability of the Andorran National Airport, which would be located in the Grau Roig area. The construction of the national airport, together with the railway network and internal mobility, build the main axes of the “Pla de Desenclavament d’Andorra”, which aims to improve communications and the competitiveness of the Principality.
The Andorran National Airport would consist of a 1,800 meter long, 45 meter wide runway and a security zone replanted with native flora, a fundamental aspect to respect the natural environment. In this sense, the CCIS have stated that 44% of the investment in the airport will be environmental.
The new airport could receive Airbus 320 or Boeing 737 aircraft with a capacity of up to 180 passengers, and with a range of between 5,500 and 6,000 kilometers. This means that the Principality of Andorra would be directly connected to destinations such as Moscow, Dubai or the large European capitals.
To carry out the first two technical studies of the project (viability of flight procedures and infrastructures), the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Andorra (CCIS) has had the advice of NAVBLUE (AIRBUS Group) and CGX, expert companies in international aviation and airport construction worldwide. These documents will now be studied by the Government of the country, which will assess the approval of the infrastructure, its environmental sustainability and economic viability.
In short, the Andorran Airport can mean a before and after for the country since it will prevent the isolation of communications and give the Principality total independence. It will then be essential to promote a new economic model, which will provide investors and high-quality tourism directly to the country. The Airport will thus allow the attraction of technological industrial companies and guarantee a prosperous future for young people.
