10/08/2021
Whether you have been organizing your summer vacation for several months, or if the pandemic has not allowed it until the last moment, it never hurts to know the 10 best beaches in the world according to National Geographic. Perhaps one of them will surprise you by its proximity, or perhaps they are right at the destination you are going to in the next few weeks. And if you still don't know where to stay, at Retreats by Andorra Sotheby's International Realty you will find different options in some of the following destinations.
1. Matemwe Beach, Zanzibar (Tanzania)
If you are passionate about adventure and have no option other than an incomparable safari through the parks of Tanzania or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Mantemwe Beach is for you. A paradisiacal landscape of palm trees and white sand ideal to relax after intense days in the sun, where you can also dive among corals and sail aboard the typical sailing boat of the Swahili coast, the dhow.
2. Sarakiniko, Milo's Island (Greece)
Sarakiniko may not be as familiar to you as the famous “moon beach” nickname given to this charming beach on the north coast of the island of Milo, in the Greek archipelago of the Cyclades (where Naxos, Paros, Mykonos and Santorini). Its peculiar appearance is due to the shapes that the water and the wind have carved in the volcanic rock, giving rise to the already known moon beach.
3. Ölüdeniz (Turkey)
Planning vacation based only on a single objective, such as culture or disconnection, is history. Not only is it possible to combine both, but it is one of the best options to make the most of your vacation this summer. What better destination for this than the Turkish bay of Ölüdeniz, whose serene waters have earned it the nickname of Blue Lagoon. A beach full of history that has seen many civilizations pass by, and is complemented by magnificent Roman ruins.
4. Cala Macarelleta, Menorca (Spain)
What better Mediterranean refuge than the south coast of Menorca? Cala Macarelleta is a clear example of a paradise of white sands and pine trees that look out over the water from the rocks, and a fantastic option for diving. It is ideally located just 14 kilometers from Ciutadella, and you can easily reach it via lovely uncultivated fields and a road lined with dry stone walls.
5. Ko Similan (Thailand)
Traveling to the south of the Asian continent undoubtedly promises unrepeatable experiences. Diving lovers recommend visiting the Similan archipelago and natural park in the middle of the Andaman Sea for its crystal clear waters and the wide biodiversity that lives on its seabed. More specifically, the beach of Ko Similan, the largest island in the archipelago, is known for the unique shapes of its rocks and coral reefs.
6. Palolem (India)
In the south of the Indian state of Goa is Palolem Beach, with a long stretch of sand washed by the warm Arabian Sea. Although until recently it was a unique beach with little human evidence (only the houses and boats of the fishermen could be found), its appearance in the film The Bourne Supremacy (2004) unleashed tourist activity and infrastructure. Even so, it is still considered one of the best beaches in the world, located just a few kilometers from the forests of the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, habitat of Bengal tigers.
7. Bora Bora (Tahiti)
Any island in French Polynesia, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, hides small paradises that for centuries have seduced explorers and artists. Bora Bora, in Tahiti, is one of the best examples. Its coral reef and its interior lagoon with turquoise waters allow the magnificent view of Mount Otemanu, an extinct volcano on white sand and coconut trees, an ideal landscape to disconnect and enjoy.
8. Playa Bonita (Dominican Republic)
The most classic Caribbean scene formed by palm trees, fine sand and crystal clear waters owes its origin to Playa Bonita in the Dominican Republic. A true summer retreat thanks to its simplicity, its location away from the hustle and bustle of cars and vendors, and its low influx of tourists. In short, an ideal getaway to immerse yourself in the green and blue hues of a movie-like Caribbean.
9. Cayo Largo (Cuba)
The destination chosen for the landing of numerous corsairs and historical sailors, or what is the same several centuries later, a magnificent islet in the southwest of Cuba, perfect for spending a unique vacation under the Caribbean sun. Not only Cayo Largo, but other nearby beaches such as Sirena, Lindamar and Paraíso, still preserve the iconic image with palm trees leaning on the white sand. Furthermore, Cayo Largo is ideally connected by boat with Varadero and by plane with Havana.
10. Benagil (Portugal)
It is not necessary to cross the Atlantic to find heavenly beaches. In fact, the Algarve, in southern Portugal, is known for having some of the most beautiful beaches on the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula, including Benagil, where the Mediterranean forests mix with the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. A charming corner with multiple brown sand caves open to the sea in which to lose yourself and explore.
