The process of increasing economic openness in the Principality of Andorra has encouraged the arrival of almost 2,000 new businesses since 2012.

The economic crisis is, in many respects, being left behind and this, in addition to an effort by the Principality’s central government, is making Andorra a unique destination for foreign investment.
In recent declarations to the foreign press, Mr. Xavier Altimir, current chairman of the Andorran Business Federation, has confirmed the opening of 2,000 businesses particularly well-known international companies from the health sector, many of them involved in the tourism market. Action is also being taken to promote investment linked to industry and sport, health and nutrition.
With the same aim, Mr. Antoni Martí’s government team is working on one of its main economic projects, the design and establishment of a leading international high-performance sports centre at the top of Envalira pass.
The Andorran economy is beginning to note the recovery from a long crisis affecting all sectors, particularly tourism, which is now positively valuing the improvement.
Along these lines the substantial improvements at administrative and fiscal level, promoted in just five years, have made it possible to generate the best possible safe economic framework for investment in Andorra, something Mr. Altimir has classed as “spectacular”, stating that “in five years, we have carried out reforms that other countries have taken fifteen to achieve”.
Accompanying this new economic project, in his declarations, Mr. Xavier Altimir takes a position absolutely in favour of the important benefits involved in the association agreement with the EU, which is expected to be signed within two years. This agreement will take into consideration the particular competitive features of the Principality of Andorra, especially due to the size of the territory and its population.
